Water circulates from a hidden underground Canyon Matrix™ reservoir through a 1,495 GPH mag-drive pump up a flex pipe to the 10” Cascade Waterfall Box, then flows down a decorative streambed and disappears back into the basin to be recirculated. The kit includes a PondGard Rubber Liner (6’×10’), protective underliner, and everything needed for a functional installation — just add river rock and gravel (not included) for the finished look. How the Blue Thumb Cascading Falls System Works
The PB1373 is a pondless (disappearing) waterfall system — water is stored underground, so there’s no open pond to maintain, no standing water to worry about, and minimal algae risk. Here’s how it works:
- Underground reservoir: The Canyon Matrix™ sits inside a lined excavation (28” long × 22” wide × 13” deep), surrounded by river rock that filters water before it enters the pump chamber
- Pump circulation: The 1,495 GPH mag-drive pump inside the Canyon Matrix™ pushes water up the 1” flex pipe to the waterfall box at the top of your falls

How much space is required for installation?
The PB1373 creates a stream up to 4’ long × 1’–2’ wide. The underground reservoir requires excavation of 28” long × 22” wide × 13” deep for the Canyon Matrix™ basin.
Key planning notes:
- The 13-inch depth requires a proper spade shovel or small digging equipment — plan accordingly
- You’ll also need a leveled area at the top of the stream for the Cascade Waterfall Box

Is the liner durable? What type of liner is included?
Yes. The kit includes a PondGard Rubber Liner — 6’ × 10’. PondGard is Firestone Building Products’ 45-mil EPDM rubber pond liner — the same material used in professional pond and water feature installations worldwide.
45-mil EPDM is UV-resistant, highly flexible (for shaping around rocks and stream contours), and will not crack or become brittle over time. The included protective underliner goes down first, then the rubber liner, providing a double layer of protection between the liner and any sharp stones or roots in the soil.
How much maintenance does this waterfall require?
The pondless design makes this one of the lowest-maintenance water features available. Because water is stored underground away from sunlight, algae growth is significantly reduced. Routine maintenance includes:
- Top off the water level periodically — evaporation will lower the basin level over time. The pump should stay submerged; running it dry will shorten pump life.
- Rinse the Canyon Matrix reservoir occasionally to remove accumulated debris
- Clean the Cascade Waterfall Box at the start of each season
- The included Muck Buster™ pond cleaner helps maintain water quality
Can I leave the waterfall running in winter?
In freezing climates, winterizing is recommended:
