How the SS6000 BioFalls® Filter Works
The Signature Series BioFalls® is a down-flow waterfall biological filter. Pond water is delivered to the filter by your pond pump through one or both of the dual 3-inch bulkhead inlets at the top of the unit. The two inlet ports create a swirling waterflow action as water enters the filter chamber, maximizing water-to-media contact time for enhanced filtration efficiency.
Water flows down through the two Poly-Flo ESA biological filter mats, where coarse mechanical debris is captured and a colony of nitrifying bacteria processes ammonia and nitrite from fish waste. The Poly-Flo ESA mats provide 50% more surface area than traditional filter mats, supporting a larger and more robust bacterial colony. After passing through the filter mats, the clean water exits through the 28-inch reversible waterfall spillway lip, cascading back into the pond as a natural waterfall.
The removable rock and plant tray sits above the filter chamber and can hold decorative rocks, aquatic plants, or gravel to naturalize the BioFalls® into its surrounding landscape.
