Fiber-resin is Aquascape's preferred material for decorative fountains because it achieves the authentic appearance of hand-stacked slate at a fraction of the weight, making single-person installation practical for a 45"-tall fountain that would weigh hundreds of pounds in real stone.
The UV-stabilized finish will not fade, chalk, or peel with outdoor exposure. The material is freeze-resistant — unlike porous natural stone, fiber-resin does not absorb water and will not crack from freeze-thaw cycling as long as the internal water channel is drained before the first hard freeze. The urn is suitable for both outdoor and indoor installations, including conservatories, atriums, and commercial lobbies where a natural stone appearance is desired without the structural weight requirements.

How do I winterize the 58090 in cold climates?
Before the first hard freeze:
- Remove the Ultra 1100 pump: The pump is a mag-drive motor — remove it from the basin, rinse clean, and store dry indoors. Do not store in a bucket of water.
- Drain the urn's internal channel: Tilt the urn or use a wet-vac to remove standing water from the center bore. Water left in the bore can freeze and expand inside the channel. The fiber-resin urn body itself is freeze-resistant, but standing water in the bore is the risk.
- Drain the AquaBasin 45: Pump or bail the basin completely dry. A full basin can develop stress cracks if the water freezes solid inside it.
- Cover or store the urn: In climates with severe winters, moving the urn to a covered space or garage provides the best protection for the finish. At minimum, cover the urn to prevent debris accumulation in the center bore during winter.
In mild climates (Zone 8+) with no hard freezes, the fountain can operate year-round.
