Description
The Aquascape 99763 DIY Backyard Pond Kit is Aquascape's smallest complete ecosystem pond package — designed for a 4'×6' pond holding approximately 250 gallons at 2-foot depth. Built for first-time pond builders and ultra-compact spaces (patios, courtyard corners, small garden beds), this kit uses Aquascape's Signature Series 200 Pond Skimmer and Signature Series 1000 BioFalls® Filter — the same professional-grade Signature Series filtration components found in all three DIY kit sizes, both carrying lifetime warranties. The included EcoWave 2000 mag-drive pump (2,020 GPH at just 65 watts) provides exceptional efficiency for a pond this size, and the Welcome Kit (USB with installation videos, starter water treatment, and gift) helps first-time builders succeed from day one.

Signature Series Filtration on a 250-Gallon Pond — Why It Matters
One of the 99763's strongest selling points is filtration quality per dollar. The Signature Series 200 Skimmer and Signature Series 1000 BioFalls® Filter are the same components used across the entire Aquascape DIY kit line — scaled for different pond sizes, but identical in quality and warranty status (both lifetime). For a 250-gallon pond, the SS1000 BioFalls® (rated to 1,000 gallons) has four times the filtration headroom needed. This overshoot is deliberate: it means the filtration system can handle a heavily planted pond, seasonal debris, summer algae pressure, and a reasonable fish stocking without being pushed to capacity. For a first-time pond builder who may not know exactly how they'll use the pond, that headroom reduces the chance of water quality problems.
The 99763's EcoWave 2000 — Right-Sized or Oversized?
The EcoWave 2000 delivers 2,020 GPH maximum flow for a 250-gallon pond — meaning it turns the pond volume over roughly 8 times per hour at max flow. For most ponds, once-per-hour turnover is the standard recommendation. This means the EcoWave is running at a fraction of its maximum output most of the time, which is actually beneficial: mag-drive pumps running well below max capacity last longer and consume even less power than their rated 65W. The EcoWave's flow rate was designed to deliver adequate waterfall aesthetics over the Signature Series 1000 BioFalls® spillway (15" wide), which benefits from higher flow for a visually engaging waterfall. If your 4'×6' pond design has a particularly tall waterfall drop, the EcoWave's 14.4-foot max head provides good buffer.

| Best For | Patios, courtyards, ultra-compact spaces, first builds | Small yards, goldfish + plants, more display room | Larger backyards, small koi, maximum visual impact |
All three kits use identical filtration and pump components. The only differences are the liner size and pond volume. For $240 more than the 99763, the 99765 gives you four times the pond volume (1,000 vs. 250 gallons). If space allows, the 99765 is a compelling value upgrade. The 99763 is the right choice when 4'×6' genuinely is the maximum available footprint. Call us to discuss which size fits your space: (765) 508-4352.
Installation Guide for the 99763
- Site selection: A 4'×6' footprint fits on most patios, in courtyard corners, and in tight landscape beds. Choose a spot with 4–6 hours of sun for aquatic plants; avoid low spots where runoff collects.
- Excavation: Mark a 4'×6' area. Dig a plant shelf 6–8" deep around the perimeter, then excavate the center to 18"–24". The 8'×10' liner provides enough overlap for the SS200 Skimmer, the BioFalls edge, and 6"–12" of berm on all sides.
- Component placement: Position the SS200 Skimmer at one end of the pond at the waterline. Position the SS1000 BioFalls® at the opposite end at the waterfall edge. Run the 1.5" kink-free pipe from the skimmer's pump chamber outlet to the BioFalls inlet using the included check valve and fittings.
- EcoWave setup: Place the EcoWave 2000 inside the SS200 Skimmer pump chamber. Connect to GFCI-protected outlet — 65W at 120V draws approximately 0.54A. Do not share the outlet with other equipment.
- Installation Kit: Use the included black foam sealant at the BioFalls liner junction before filling. Allow 30 minutes dry time. Apply fish-safe silicone at skimmer liner penetration points per the included instructions. The 4.7 oz. silicone tube and foam sealant are sized for a 4'×6' installation.
- Welcome Kit startup: Add the included starter water treatment at fill. Watch the USB video guide before beginning excavation — Aquascape's step-by-step installation sequence is specific to their skimmer/BioFalls system and worth reviewing before breaking ground.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in the Aquascape 99763 4'×6' Pond Kit?
The 99763 includes: 8'×10' 45-mil EPDM liner (builds 4'×6' pond to max 2' depth; 20-year warranty), 80 sq. ft. geotextile underlayment, Signature Series 200 Pond Skimmer (#43020) (6" weir; 3,000 GPH max; leaf and debris net; lifetime warranty), Signature Series 1000 BioFalls® Filter (15" spillway; BioBalls included; 2 filter mats; lifetime warranty), EcoWave 2000 Pond Pump (#91131) (2,020 GPH max; 65W; 3-year warranty), 1.5"×25' kink-free pipe with hose clamps, pump check valve assembly, fittings, Installation Kit (black silicone sealant 4.7 oz., pond and waterfall foam sealant, PVC cement), and Welcome Kit (USB with installation videos and step-by-step guides, starter water treatment, gift).
Not included: rocks, gravel, aquatic plants, fish, LED lighting.
Note on component names: Older versions of the 99763 (pre-2019, originally sold as the "MicroPond® Kit") used the MicroSkim® and MicroFalls® filters. The current version ships with Signature Series 200 Skimmer and Signature Series 1000 BioFalls® — confirmed by the current Amazon listing and the Aquascape 2022 official product catalog.
How many gallons does the 4'×6' pond hold?
A 4'×6' pond excavated to standard 2-foot depth with typical plant shelving holds approximately 250 gallons. This is a compact but fully functional ecosystem pond — sufficient for a small collection of goldfish, aquatic plants, and a functioning waterfall. The Signature Series 1000 BioFalls® Filter included in this kit is rated for ponds up to 1,000 gallons, giving the biological filtration system four times more capacity than the pond needs. For those who find 250 gallons limiting, the 99764 (500 gallons, $1,439.99) and 99765 (1,000 gallons, $1,519.99) use identical components with larger liners.
What pump comes with the 99763, and what type of pump is it?
The 99763 includes the EcoWave 2000 Pond Pump (#91131) — a magnetic-drive (mag-drive) submersible pump delivering 2,020 GPH maximum flow at 65 watts. The EcoWave's smart internal technology and vortex impeller design make it significantly more energy-efficient than older-generation mag-drive pumps at the same flow rate. At US average electricity rates (~$0.13/kWh), continuous 24/7 operation costs approximately $7–$8 per month. The pump is oil-free, fish-safe, and backed by a 3-year warranty. It runs vertically or horizontally and fits inside the SS200 Skimmer chamber. Required: GFCI-protected outdoor outlet.
What does "Signature Series" mean for filtration, and how do these compare to the old MicroFalls and MicroPond Skimmer?
Aquascape upgraded the 99763 component set from the original MicroSkim® and MicroFalls® filters to the Signature Series 200 Pond Skimmer and Signature Series 1000 BioFalls® Filter — the same components now used across all three DIY kit sizes (99763, 99764, 99765). The Signature Series components offer larger filtration capacity (the SS1000 BioFalls is rated to 1,000 gallons vs. the older MicroFalls' smaller capacity), better construction, and the same lifetime warranty. If you built your 99763 before approximately 2019 and need replacement parts, you likely need MicroFalls/MicroSkim parts — contact us for guidance: (765) 508-4352. For current 99763 purchases, all replacement parts should reference the Signature Series 200 Skimmer (#43020) and Signature Series 1000 BioFalls®.
Can I keep fish in this 4'×6' pond?
Yes — this is an ideal goldfish pond. Goldfish, Shubunkins, and Sarasa Comets thrive in well-filtered 250-gallon ponds. A conservative starting group of 3–5 small fish (2"–4") is appropriate; introduce them 2–4 weeks after filling to allow the nitrogen cycle to establish using the BioBalls and beneficial bacteria in the SS1000 BioFalls. At 250 gallons, this is generally too small for koi — koi produce significant waste and grow large (12"–24"+), both of which will quickly overwhelm a pond this size. For koi, consider the 99765 (1,000 gallons) as the minimum viable size.
How does the Signature Series 200 Skimmer work for a 4'×6' pond?
The Signature Series 200 Pond Skimmer is specifically designed for ponds up to 200 square feet. A 4'×6' pond is approximately 24 square feet — well within that rating with substantial headroom. The 6" weir draws water from the pond surface, pulling floating debris (leaves, pollen, organic particles) into the leaf and debris net before it can sink and decompose. By removing debris at the surface, the skimmer pre-filters the water and protects the EcoWave 2000 pump housed inside from clogging. Maintenance is straightforward: lift the net, empty debris, replace. Both the skimmer and the SS1000 BioFalls® carry lifetime warranties.
Is this the smallest Aquascape DIY pond kit available?
Yes — the 99763 (4'×6', ~250 gallons, $1,279.99) is the smallest complete ecosystem pond kit in Aquascape's DIY series. The three available sizes are: 99763 (this kit), 99764 (6'×8', ~500 gal., $1,439.99), and 99765 (8'×11', ~1,000 gal., $1,519.99). All three kits use identical Signature Series filtration (SS200 Skimmer + SS1000 BioFalls®) and the same EcoWave 2000 pump — only the liner size and pond volume differ. For the $240 price difference between the 99763 and 99765, you get four times the pond volume. If your space has any flexibility, the larger sizes offer meaningfully better long-term value for fish keeping and ecosystem stability.
