How much maintenance does the AquaBasin reservoir require?
The AquaBasin® 30 holds 27 gallons in a 30”×30”×12” basin. The sub-surface position shields water from direct sunlight, naturally limiting algae growth and keeping water cleaner between service intervals.
Routine maintenance includes topping off the water level periodically (evaporation is the main cause of water loss), cleaning the pump screen at the start of each season, and using Aquascape water treatments as needed. Never let the basin run completely dry — the Ultra 550 pump should always be submerged during operation.
Can I leave the fountain outside in the winter?
The fiber-resin urn is weather-resistant for year-round outdoor placement. The complete system, however, should be winterized before sustained freezing temperatures:
- Drain the AquaBasin 30 completely
- Remove the Ultra 550 pump and store it indoors (or in a bucket of water to preserve seals)
- Drain and store the plumbing tubing to prevent freeze cracking
