This complete kit includes the Achelous AquaBox subsurface basin, a pre-matched mag-drive pump, kink-free tubing with flow control valve, and 200 lbs of polished pebbles in your choice of color.

Why the ABBC200 Polished Top?
- The polished top creates a mirror-like water effect unlike any other finish. Each column's flat polished surface causes the water emerging from the central drill hole to spread across the smooth top in a thin reflective sheet before cascading over the edge. Wet polished basalt appears dramatically darker and more vibrant than the surrounding raw sides — creating a two-tone visual where the black interior of the basalt contrasts sharply against the natural exterior crust. In sunlight, the effect is striking. This is the defining aesthetic of the ABBC200 vs. the ABBC100 rustic or the ABBC500 bowled top.
- Real volcanic stone — no two pieces the same. Blue Thumb sources natural basalt columns directly from quarries worldwide and works with skilled artisans to drill, cut, and polish each piece. The skin or crust on the outside of the columns ranges from beige to red to black depending on where it was formed in the lava flow. The interior, revealed on the polished top, is consistently deep black and polishes to a rich luster. Natural variation in texture, color, and veining ensures every ABBC200 kit is unique.
- ~5 lbs per inch of height — serious stone, serious weight. A 30" basalt column weighs approximately 150 lbs; an 18" column approximately 90 lbs. The complete installed kit with basin and pebbles totals approximately 600+ lbs. This is a meaningful installation consideration — plan for two-person placement of the larger columns and appropriate equipment. The weight is also an operational advantage: no anchoring needed, and the columns will not shift in wind or flood events.
- 3-way independent flow control — full acoustic customization. The included 3-way valve with individual ball valves lets you set different flow rates for each column. Running maximum flow on the 30" column and reduced flow on the 18" column creates a natural gradient — the tall column cascades strongly while the smaller columns provide gentle ambient sound. Adjusting one valve redistributes total pump output across the others.
- 200 lbs of pebbles included — color of your choice. Unlike Blue Thumb's lighter GFRC kits (LA7400, LA7425, LA7475) where decorative pebbles are NOT included, the ABBC200 ships with a full 200 lbs of polished pebbles as standard. This covers the Achelous AquaBox basin lid and surrounding area completely. Specify Black Polished (default), Mixed Polished, Striped, or White at checkout — or call us to discuss: (765) 508-4352.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the heights of the columns in the ABBC200?
The ABBC200 Triple Polished Top Basalt Kit includes three natural basalt columns in graduated heights. Based on the standard Blue Thumb triple polished top Short kit series, the expected heights are 18", 24", and 30" — however, the specific heights for the ABBC200 should be confirmed with our team at time of order since Blue Thumb's natural stone kits can ship in multiple configurations. Call or text us to confirm before ordering: (765) 508-4352.
For reference, the full Blue Thumb triple basalt series: Short = 18"–24"–30" | Tall = 24"–30"–36" | Extra Tall = 24"–36"–48".
What is the difference between the ABBC200 and the ABBC100?
Both are real natural basalt triple column fountain kits using the same Achelous AquaBox basin, mag-drive pump, kink-free tubing, and 200 lbs of polished pebbles. The only difference is the column finish:
- ABBC100 (Rustic): Raw, unpolished surface on all sides. Water disperses immediately over the rough stone as it exits the top. Earthy, natural, aged appearance.
- ABBC200 (Polished Top): Flat mirror-smooth polished top, raw natural sides. Water pools briefly on the polished surface before cascading. More contemporary, high-contrast aesthetic — the wet black interior basalt against the lighter natural crust creates a striking visual in sunlight.
Are the 200 lbs of pebbles included, and can I choose the color?
Yes — 200 lbs of polished pebbles are included standard with the ABBC200. You can choose your pebble color: Black Polished (default), Mixed Polished, Striped, or White. Specify your preference in the Order Instructions field at checkout, or call us: (765) 508-4352. If no color is specified, the kit ships with Black Polished pebbles.
Note: This is different from Blue Thumb's GFRC faux basalt kits (LA7400, LA7425, LA7475) which do NOT include pebbles. Real natural basalt kits include pebbles as standard.
What pump is included in the ABBC200?
The ABBC200 ships with a pre-matched Mag-Drive pump selected specifically for the column heights in the kit. Blue Thumb's Short triple basalt kits use a 1,495 GPH Mag-Drive pump; Tall and Extra Tall kits use a 1,980 GPH pump for the greater lift height. The pump sits permanently submersed inside the Achelous AquaBox basin below the pebble layer. Call us to confirm the exact pump GPH for your kit configuration: (765) 508-4352.
Can I adjust the water flow to each column independently?
Yes. The ABBC200 includes a 3-way independent flow control valve with individual ball valves for each of the three columns. You can open each valve fully for maximum bubbling, restrict it for a gentler effect, or close one column completely. This lets you balance the output across the three different heights and customize the sound profile of the fountain to match your preference and the ambient noise environment.
How do I winterize the ABBC200 in a cold climate?
For climates with prolonged below-freezing temperatures:
- Turn off and remove the pump. Mag-drive pumps should be cleaned, dried, and stored indoors in a frost-free location.
- Do NOT drain the Achelous AquaBox basin. Leave water in the basin over winter. The water freezing in the basin anchors it in the ground — draining it allows frost heave to push the basin upward out of the soil, which can crack the basin or displace the installation. Allow the water to freeze naturally in place.
- Clear any standing water from the polished tops of the basalt columns before freeze to prevent ice expansion from cracking the polished surface over repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
- The basalt columns themselves can remain outdoors year-round.
How heavy is the complete ABBC200 kit?
Natural basalt weighs approximately 5 lbs per inch of height. For the Short kit (18"–24"–30"): the 30" column is approximately 150 lbs, the 24" column approximately 120 lbs, and the 18" column approximately 90 lbs — roughly 360 lbs of stone for the three columns combined. Add the Achelous AquaBox basin (~50 lbs) and 200 lbs of pebbles and the total installed weight is approximately 600+ lbs. Plan for two-person installation for the larger columns and a hand truck or dolly for moving them into position. Once placed, the weight is a long-term advantage — no anchoring needed, stable in wind and weather.
