How the Elite 16" Cascading Falls System Works
The PB16KIT creates a pondless (disappearing) waterfall: water flows over the 16" Elite Spillway and into an in-ground basin that is completely invisible below gravel and stone. Here's how the system works end-to-end:
- Excavation: Dig a basin sized to accommodate the Water Matrix box and Pump Canyon® vault. The basin footprint is lined with the included protective underliner, then the 10’×15’ PondGard rubber liner over the top.
- Reservoir: Place the Water Matrix box (Large) on the liner inside the excavated basin -- this modular box creates the underground water storage volume. The liner wraps around it. Fill the cavity with washed gravel to conceal the system.
- Pump vault: The IllumiFlow 2,100 GPH pump sits inside the Elite Pump Canyon® vault on top of the liner. The Pump Canyon protects the pump, keeps it submerged, and provides access for maintenance without disturbing stone or gravel.
- Plumbing: The pump discharge assembly (with check valve) connects to the 2"×25’ Black Flex PVC pipe, which runs up the slope to the Elite Spillway Box at the top of the waterfall.
- Spillway: Water enters the 16" Elite Spillway Box through the flex pipe and is distributed evenly by the internal baffle system, producing a smooth, consistent glass-like water curtain across the full 16" lip.

Can I place heavy landscape rocks directly on top of the spillway?
Yes. The Elite Cascade Spillway Box is engineered with structural ribbing and reinforced construction designed to support the weight of large decorative rocks and boulders stacked directly on top of the unit. This load-bearing capacity is what allows landscape contractors to fully conceal the spillway box within natural rockwork, so only the flowing water curtain is visible in the finished installation.
