What is the maximum pond capacity for the ECK13U system?
The ECK13U is rated for ponds up to 1,300 gallons with no fish. For ponds containing fish, effective capacity is 650 gallons. EasyPro provides only these two official capacity tiers.
Note that fish load, feeding rates, sunlight exposure, and temperature all reduce actual effective filtration capacity. If your pond is at the upper end of either limit, consider the ECK13UDX (larger filter with 18W UV, rated for 1,300 gal with fish) or the ECK26U for additional headroom.

How does the UV Clarifier prevent green water?
The EC1300U includes an integrated 9-watt UV clarifier. As pond water passes through the filter, it is exposed to high-intensity ultraviolet light that disrupts the cellular structure of free-floating algae, causing the cells to clump together. The clumped algae are then captured by the foam pads inside the filter, effectively eliminating the “pea soup” green water caused by suspended algae.
Note: UV clarifiers eliminate free-floating algae only. They do not remove string algae (blanket weed) growing on pond surfaces. For comprehensive algae control, combine UV clarification with proper pond maintenance and water treatment.
Can the EC1300U filter be buried?
Yes. The EC1300U canister can be buried up to the cleaning ring for complete concealment — only the lid and cleaning ring remain above ground for access. This makes it easy to hide the filter behind rocks, plants, or landscaping while keeping the maintenance access point visible and reachable.
How often do the filter pads need to be cleaned?
Cleaning frequency depends on fish load, feeding rates, and sunlight. As a general guideline, rinse the foam pads every 2–4 weeks during the main pond season. To clean:
- Turn off the pump
- Unclamp and open the filter lid
- Remove the foam pads and rinse with pond water (not chlorinated tap water, which damages beneficial bacteria)
- Reassemble and restart
The EC1300U does not have a backflush valve — cleaning requires opening the lid. Backflush valves are a feature of the larger EC2600U and EC3900U units.
Is the EPS1300 pump energy efficient?
Yes. The EPS1300 uses asynchronous permanent magnet mag-drive technology — oil-free, epoxy-sealed, and fish-safe, running continuously on 55 watts. Combined with the 9W UV unit, the entire ECK13U system draws 64 watts total at peak operation.
