How the System Works
The MP1000 pump sits inside the FBL48 basin beneath the grating. Water is drawn from the basin, pumped through the 3-way splitter manifold, and routed up through flexible tubing inside each basalt column's core-drilled channel. At the top, water emerges from the 1-1/4" hole and spreads across the polished crown before cascading down the natural sides back into the basin below the grating. The recirculating system requires no drain and uses only the 46 gallons held in the FBL48 — plus occasional top-offs as water evaporates.
The 3-way manifold with independent valves lets you tune the water height for each column separately: a subtle trickle on the 20" column, a moderate flow on the 27", and a full bubbling plume on the 35" — or any combination. The MP1000's built-in adjustable flow control provides a master throttle for the entire system, while the manifold valves balance between columns.
The LED8B3 light rings drop into the 1-3/8" enlarged section at the bottom of each core hole, shining upward through the water column to the polished top. At night, the light refracts through the moving water and reflects off the polished stone crown — an entirely different visual effect from the daytime display.
Installation Overview
- Site preparation: Excavate a shallow bed for the FBL48 basin — approximately 48" diameter × 12" deep. The basin rim should sit at or slightly below finished grade so the grating is flush with the surrounding surface. Level the basin carefully; the basalt columns will amplify any tilt.
- Basin setup: Place the support block inside the FBL48 beneath the grating where the heaviest column will stand. How do I winterize the HBR3CSL in cold climates?
Proper winterization for the HBR3CSL in freezing climates:
- Pump (MP1000 — mag-drive): Remove from the basin. Rinse with clean water, drain completely, and store DRY in an indoor location above freezing. Do NOT store in a bucket of water — the MP1000 is a magnetic-drive pump with no mechanical shaft seals that need moisture. Water stored in the pump housing can freeze and crack the pump body or damage the impeller.
