How the ScreenMatic² Auto-Cleaning Works
Water from your pond pump enters the BioTec 24000 through the 1"–1-1/2" inlet, flowing first over the 300-micron ScreenMatic² belt screen where coarse debris is captured. An intelligent sensor mounted above the screen continuously monitors debris buildup. When the sensor detects a preset buildup level, it automatically activates the double-sealed cleaning motor, which advances the belt and deposits captured debris into the enlarged sludge basket below the screen. The sludge basket can be removed for emptying or the slide valve on the sludge drain opened to flush waste with minimal mess.
After mechanical pre-filtration through the screen, water flows through three zones of biological filter foam with progressively finer densities, each hosting distinct communities of beneficial bacteria. This multi-zone approach maximizes biological surface area and ensures complete ammonia and nitrite processing. Filtered water returns to the pond through the 4" outlet by gravity. An active LED display on the unit shows current cleaning status and alerts when manual maintenance is needed.
Manual override: A push button allows manual activation of the belt cleaning cycle at any time, without waiting for the sensor to trigger automatically. Useful during heavy debris periods (autumn leaf fall, algae blooms).
Oase ClearWater Guarantee
When the BioTec 24000 ScreenMatic² is properly sized and paired with compatible Oase components, it qualifies for Oase's ClearWater Guarantee — a commitment to water clarity visible to three feet depth (a tape measure placed vertically to 3 feet in the pond will be readable at the 1-inch tip). The ClearWater Guarantee is unique in the pond filter industry and reflects Oase's confidence in their complete system approach.
ClearWater Guarantee pairing for BioTec 24000: Oase AquaMax Eco Classic 3600 or AquaMax Eco Premium 4500 pump + Oase Bitron C 55C UV Clarifier. Both must be registered online at oase.com along with the BioTec 24000 to qualify for the 3-year warranty and ClearWater Guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Oase ScreenMatic² automated debris separation work?
Water enters the BioTec 24000 from the pond pump and flows over the 300-micron ScreenMatic² belt. An adjustable intelligent sensor mounted above the screen continuously detects the level of debris accumulation. When buildup triggers the sensor, the double-sealed cleaning motor automatically advances the belt, depositing captured debris into the redesigned sludge basket below.
The cleaning cycle runs automatically without manual intervention. A manual push button allows you to trigger the cycle at any time (useful during high-debris seasons like autumn). The active LED display shows current cleaning status and alerts for maintenance needs.
What is the maximum pond capacity for the BioTec 24000?
Oase rates the BioTec 24000 ScreenMatic² as follows:
- No fish (decorative pond): up to 24,000 gallons
- Ornamental/small fish: up to 12,000 gallons
- Koi (high biological load): up to 6,000 gallons
Note: The "24000" in the product name refers to the 24,000-gallon decorative pond rating, not the flow rate. The filter operates at 2,110–3,300 GPH — pair with the AquaMax Eco Premium 4500 (within this range) for optimal performance and ClearWater Guarantee eligibility.
Does the BioTec 24000 require manual foam cleaning?
Routine coarse debris removal is fully automated by the ScreenMatic² belt. For the biological foam zones, Oase has designed the filter so that the foams are cleaned directly inside the filter using pond water — the integrated cleaning handles allow you to compress the foam zones in place, releasing waste into the sludge drain without removing the foams or handling them outside the unit. This preserves the beneficial bacteria colony in the foams while removing accumulated waste.
The slide valve on the sludge drain allows the released waste water to exit cleanly. No sponges need to be removed from the filter, squeezed outside, or re-inserted — cleaning is done entirely within the filter body.
Is the BioTec 24000 compatible with Oase Bitron UV clarifiers?
Yes — and Oase specifically recommends pairing the BioTec 24000 with the Bitron C 55C UV Clarifier for optimal performance. This pairing, combined with the correct pump (AquaMax Eco Premium 4500 or Eco Classic 3600), qualifies the entire system for the Oase ClearWater Guarantee — Oase's commitment to pond clarity visible to a 3-foot depth.
The Bitron C UV clarifier mounts directly to the filter intake for a streamlined installation. Register all components online at oase.com to activate both the 3-year extended warranty and the ClearWater Guarantee.
Can the BioTec ScreenMatic² 24000 be buried to hide it?
The BioTec 24000 is a gravity-fed flow-through filter — the water outlet must remain above the pond water level for correct gravity return to the pond. Because of this, it cannot be fully buried. However, it can be partially buried up to 1/3 of its height to reduce its visual prominence.
To conceal the filter completely, use the Oase FiltoCap rock cover (sold separately), which creates a realistic rock appearance over the filter housing. This is a popular choice for landscape installations where the filter needs to be hidden within garden beds. The FiltoCap does not affect filter performance or maintenance access.
Safety notes: DO NOT SUBMERSE the BioTec 24000. The unit is not waterproof. Not approved for swimming pools or saltwater applications.
