Description

The Scott Aerator Amherst Fountain delivers a spectacular, tiered spray display combined with powerful aeration for large ponds and lakes. Featuring a robust 1.5 HP stainless-steel motor, this fountain produces a tall, elegant center column surrounded by a wide, dramatic crown pattern—instantly enhancing any water feature with classic beauty and improved water quality.

The Scott Aerator Amherst is defined by three things. First, its three-tier display: a very distinct lower ring, middle tier, and center column, each clearly separated from the next — a stately, classical fountain silhouette that looks equally at home on a private estate pond or a municipal water feature. Second, its restraint: the 1.5 HP Amherst projects a center column of approximately 20 feet, surrounded by side jets spreading 40 feet across. This is not an extreme-height fountain. It is a proportionate, elegant display. Third, its build: stainless steel, oil-free, no-maintenance, made in Holland, Michigan, and backed by a 5-year motor warranty.

This 200-foot cord version (230V) runs 10-gauge submersible cable — heavier than the standard 12-gauge cord because 200 feet of run requires it for proper voltage delivery at 8.2 amps. At 230V, the Amherst draws half the amps of the equivalent 115V motor, which is why the 230V model is the correct choice for longer cord runs and for installations where amp efficiency and voltage stability matter.

Questions about pond size, placement, or whether the Amherst is the right Scott Aerator fountain for your application? Call or text (765) 508-4352, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM EST. We carry the complete Scott Aerator line.

Why Choose the Scott Aerator Amherst 1.5 HP

  • Three distinct, classically separated tiers. The Amherst’s display has a very clear visual separation between its lower ring, middle tier, and center column — a structural elegance that most fountain styles cannot achieve. This tier separation is what makes the Amherst look impressive even at a moderate center height. It creates depth, not just height.
  • Proportionate for large ponds. The 1.5 HP Amherst’s ~20-foot center column and 40-foot wide side spray creates a display that is proportionate for residential ponds from a half-acre to an acre. It fills the visual center of a pond without overpowering smaller water features or appearing undersized on larger ones.
  • The 230V advantage at 200 feet. 8.2 amps at 230V is efficient. A 115V motor running the same load would draw ~16.4 amps — and a 115V motor cannot reliably run a 200-foot cord without voltage drop degrading performance. The 230V motor solves both: half the amp draw, full performance at distance.
  • No maintenance. No winterizing. Leave the Amherst in the pond all winter. Turn off the power. All components are engineered to withstand sub-zero conditions. Restore power in spring. No maintenance procedures, no winterizing chemicals, no removal required.
  • No-screen intake eliminates clogging. Like all Scott Aerator fountains, the Amherst uses a no-screen intake design. Small debris passes through the pump without restricting flow, eliminating the most common floating fountain maintenance task.
  • 5-year unconditional motor warranty. Scott Aerator warrants the motor against defects in materials and workmanship for five years, unconditionally, under normal operating conditions. All other components carry a 1-year warranty. Manufactured in Holland, Michigan.
  • Nozzle interchangeability. The Amherst pump body accepts all Scott Aerator nozzle styles. Change the display to a Skyward cone, a Clover pattern, a Gusher geyser, or the Cambridge at any time. No new pump required.

Electrical Plannning - What You Need Before You Buy

  • 230V, 20-amp double-pole circuit breaker (not a standard single-pole 115V outlet)
  • L6-20 twist-lock receptacle at the power source (the 10-gauge cord terminates in an L6-20 plug)
  • GFCI protection required per NEC and Scott Aerator specifications
  • 200 feet of submersible 10-gauge cord runs from the power source to the fountain center
  • Licensed electrician recommended for 230V circuit installation

The 8.2 amp draw at 230V is efficient — half what the equivalent 115V motor would draw. This is why 230V is the correct choice for long cord runs and installations where electrical economy matters. If you are within 100 feet of a standard 115V outlet, 115V models are available — call us to discuss. (765) 508-4352.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What does the three-tier Amherst display look like?
The Amherst produces three very distinctly separated tiers: a lower broad ring close to the water surface, a middle tier rising above it, and a center column reaching approximately 20 feet at 1.5 HP. Each tier is visually distinct — unlike a cone-shaped fountain where the tiers blend together, the Amherst’s layers are clearly articulated. The side spray spreads approximately 40 feet in diameter. The nozzle is adjustable, so center column height can be tuned to your preference.
How many gallons per minute does the Amherst 1.5 HP circulate?
The Amherst 1.5 HP fountain circulates approximately 80 gallons per minute. This is a display fountain — it provides meaningful aeration and oxygen transfer, but its primary design purpose is aesthetic. For maximum pond health and aeration as the primary goal (rather than fountain display), Scott Aerator’s DA-20 aerator line circulates significantly higher water volumes. Call (765) 508-4352 to discuss which product fits your application.
Why does the 230V model draw only 8.2 amps?
At 230V, the motor draws approximately half the amps of the equivalent 115V motor. The same 1,210 watts of power delivery at double the voltage requires half the current. This has two practical benefits: the motor runs cooler and more efficiently at reduced amp draw, and the 10-gauge 200-foot cord can deliver adequate power without voltage drop. If you ran a 115V motor on a 200-foot cord, voltage drop would degrade performance. 230V solves this.
What anchoring equipment do I need?
Two 25-pound anchoring weights or concrete blocks, plus two nylon mooring ropes, are required. The nylon ropes are included with the fountain. The 25-pound weights are NOT included and must be sourced separately. Standard concrete blocks from a hardware store work. The anchoring setup is designed to allow the fountain to float and self-orient to wind conditions while remaining stationary.
Is the Amherst the right fountain if I want maximum height?
The Amherst prioritizes classical three-tier elegance over maximum height. At 1.5 HP, the center column reaches approximately 20 feet with a 40-foot wide spread. If maximum height is the priority, the Skyward (40 ft center at 1.5 HP) or the Clover (40 ft center at 1.5 HP with a different pattern) may be a better fit. Call (765) 508-4352 and we’ll help you match the fountain style to your pond and goals.
Can I change the spray pattern later?
Yes. All Scott Aerator pump bodies accept all Scott Aerator nozzle styles. If you want to try the Skyward cone pattern, the Clover, the Gusher geyser, or the Cambridge, you can purchase just the nozzle later and swap it manually in minutes — no tools required. No new pump is needed.
Does it work in saltwater?
Yes. The Amherst is fully approved for saltwater and brackish water applications. Stainless steel construction throughout the motor housing and hardware resists corrosion from salt exposure, making it suitable for coastal retention ponds, estuaries, and marine-adjacent applications.
What is the complete warranty?
Scott Aerator provides an unconditional 5-year warranty on the motor against defects in materials or workmanship under normal operating conditions. All other product components — float, nozzle, hardware, cord — are warranted for 1 year from date of purchase. Warranty service requires the unit to be returned to Scott Aerator’s factory in Holland, Michigan with shipping prepaid.

The Scott Aerator Amherst 1.5 HP delivers a three-tier classical display, 8.2 amps at 230V on a 10-gauge 200-foot cord, no maintenance, no winterizing, and a 5-year motor warranty from Holland, Michigan. For large ponds where the fountain is meant to define the space rather than simply occupy it, the Amherst is the right choice.
