Evolution Aqua EazyPod Pond Filter

The Evolution Aqua EazyPod Standard is rated for:

• Koi ponds: up to 10,000 litres (approximately 2,640 US gallons)
• Ornamental / decorative ponds (low fish load): up to 20,000 litres (approximately 5,280 US gallons)

These ratings are based on the 18 litres of static K1 Micro media providing sufficient surface area for biological filtration and adequate solids capture, with a maximum pump flow rate of 10,000 LPH. For heavily stocked koi ponds or ponds with regular feeding, stay within the lower koi rating. The EazyPod can also serve as a polishing or pre-filter in larger systems alongside a primary filter.

The EazyPod Standard is supplied with 18 litres of static K1 Micro — Evolution Aqua’s proven biological and mechanical filter media. K1 Micro is a small-wheel design made from virgin plastic, providing a high protected surface area per litre of media volume. The protected inner surfaces of each K1 Micro piece allow biofilm colonies to develop and remain stable even during the cleaning cycle.

In the EazyPod, the K1 Micro is used in a static bed configuration — the media remains stationary rather than moving. This static bed acts as both a mechanical trap for fine solids and a biological colonization surface. The static configuration is a key reason the EazyPod achieves excellent mechanical filtration: solids become entrapped in the K1 Micro mass and are held until the backwash cleaning cycle removes them.

K1 Micro differs from standard foam or sponge media in that it does not compact over time, is immune to bypass flow channels, and cleans via air agitation rather than manual squeezing.

The EazyPod Standard supports both pump-fed and gravity-fed operation, but with an important distinction:

• Pump-fed (plug-and-play): Connect a pond pump to the EazyPod inlet. The pump pushes water through the filter, and cleaned water returns to the pond by gravity (e.g., down a waterfall or through a return pipe). This is the default, plug-and-play installation.
• Gravity-fed (requires user modification): The filter receives water by gravity (e.g., via a bottom drain) and a separate return pump pushes the cleaned water back to the pond. This configuration requires physical modification to the EazyPod Standard. Important: gravity-fed installation is not plug-and-play on the Standard model.

Note: The EazyPod Complete is pump-fed installation only and does not support gravity-fed operation.

The EazyPod Standard uses an entirely air-driven static-bed backwash cleaning cycle:

• Connect a 70 L/min air pump (not included) to the EazyPod air inlet.
• Open the waste slide valve to allow debris to exit.
• Turn on the air pump — the airflow agitates the static K1 Micro bed, releasing trapped solids into the waste line.
• The cleaning cycle typically completes in a few minutes. Turn off the air pump and close the waste valve when the discharge runs clear.

This process is performed without opening the filter body or handling the media — a significant maintenance advantage over sponge or foam filters that require manual squeezing. The beneficial bacteria colonizing the K1 Micro are largely preserved because the cleaning action is gentler than manual media washing.

Cleaning frequency depends on fish load, feeding rate, and seasonal conditions. Most installations require cleaning every 1–4 weeks. The quality of the waste discharge will indicate when cleaning is due.

The EazyPod Standard requires a minimum 70 litres-per-minute (L/min) air pump to effectively agitate the K1 Micro static bed during the backwash cycle. Evolution Aqua’s Air Pump 70 is purpose-designed for this application and is the recommended choice.

Important: The air pump is NOT included with the EazyPod Standard. It must be purchased separately. If you prefer a model that includes the air pump, see the EazyPodAir (Standard + Air Pump 70 Kit) or the EazyPod Complete (Standard + Air Pump 70 Kit + integrated 18W UV clarifier). A pump below 70 L/min will not provide sufficient agitation for a thorough clean and may leave solids trapped in the media.

The EazyPod Standard comes with the following connections:

• Water inlet: 1½" hosetail connection (with O-ring)
• Waste slide valve: 1½" hosetail connection (with O-ring)
• Outlet: 4"-to-3" Eazy connector (reducing adapter for the return line)

All connections include adjustable rubber boot connectors that allow adaptation to a range of pipe diameters. The rubber boots provide a watertight seal on various pipe sizes without requiring precision fittings, making the EazyPod highly adaptable to existing pond plumbing. Both the Standard and the Complete use the same EazyPod filter body, 18 litres of K1 Micro, and the same capacity ratings — but they differ in included components:

• EazyPod Standard (this product): Filter only. No air pump included. Suitable for both pump-fed and gravity-fed (with modification). Best value if you already have or prefer to select your own air pump.
• EazyPodAir: Includes the Air Pump 70 Kit. Best for buyers who want the air pump handled in one purchase.
• EazyPod Complete: Includes Air Pump 70 Kit AND an integrated 18-Watt UV clarifier built into the inlet section — which destroys single-celled algae (green water) before water enters the filter. Pump-fed installation only. Best for green-water control and maximum all-in-one convenience.

If your pond currently has green water algae issues, the EazyPod Complete’s integrated UV is the most direct solution. If water clarity is good and you simply want mechanical/biological filtration, the Standard is the most cost-effective choice with the flexibility to add UV separately.

Yes — the EazyPod is well-suited to bottom-drain pond systems in either configuration:

• Pump-fed with bottom drain: A submersible or external pump is placed in the bottom drain chamber, pumping water up to the EazyPod inlet. Clean filtered water returns via the outlet (e.g., to a waterfall or surface return). This is plug-and-play with no modification.
• Gravity-fed from bottom drain: The bottom drain feeds the EazyPod directly by gravity. A separate return pump then pushes filtered water back to the pond. This configuration requires user modification to the EazyPod Standard.

The EazyPod’s two-stage mechanical action (stainless steel grill + K1 Micro static bed) is especially effective with bottom-drain systems where concentrated settled solids from the pond base are delivered directly to the filter inlet. This allows the outer chamber to handle the primary mechanical load (larger solids settling at base) before water reaches the K1 Micro.

Beyond routine backwash cleaning cycles, the EazyPod Standard requires minimal ongoing maintenance:

• Stainless steel grill inspection: Periodically check the perforated grill between the outer and inner chambers for blockage by large debris (leaves, string algae). Rinse or brush clean during the backwash cycle if needed.
• K1 Micro media: K1 Micro does not require replacement on any set schedule. Replace only if the media becomes visibly degraded, physically damaged, or if biological performance declines significantly over time. Under normal conditions, K1 Micro lasts for many years.
• Waste slide valve: Inspect O-rings and valve seating annually. Replace if sealing performance deteriorates.
• Winterization: In climates where temperatures drop below freezing, remove the filter media, drain all water from the filter body, and store the unit in a frost-free location. Alternatively, keep the pond pump and filter running continuously through winter to maintain water movement and prevent freezing.
• Air pump maintenance: Follow the manufacturer’s guidance for the air pump (not included). Diaphragm pumps typically require annual diaphragm replacement.
